Senior Financial Accountant – insurance & broking

Role summary

Into 2024, we are growing our team, adding several new lines of insurance products, and expanding market coverage to help grow our brand🚀

To be considered for this role you will have experience within the insurance industry, particularly in all matters related to the financial management critical to the operations of insurers, underwriting agencies and brokers. You will have an advanced knowledge around interpretation of financial reporting, binders, bordereaux and commission structures.

The Role:
This is an exciting key hire for upcover’s finance function as our first finance role with a pathway to a leadership position. You will be working closely with the co-founders.

The intention is this role has the ability to grow in 18-24 months to be a CFO and Treasurer in the business.
● The role has instrumental involvement in establishing upcover’s finance function and growing our team as our business grows as well as helping upcover achieve profitability.
● Attend to ASIC related queries regarding AFSL including F70 and cash flow monitoring.
● Ability to interpret binder agreements and operationalise.
● Ability to ensure bordereau production is in accordance with binder agreements.
● Assist and contribute to the improvements of processes across financial accounting and reporting.
● Ensure a smooth and efficient month end close with upcover’s financials as well as loan book servicing.
● Manage the month end close process on behalf of multiple insurance partners.
● Coordinating with all stakeholders including appointed accountants, auditors, ASIC, ATO, senior executives, and senior management teams.
● Have a can-do attitude and ability to perform all work of the finance function without a large finance team to support - this will grow as our business grows.
● Undertake general ledger control activities to ensure ledger integrity including review, coordination and approval of monthly journals.

About you
● Insurance industry experience (Essential)
● Degree qualification in accounting (Essential)
● CA or CPA certification (Essential)
● Familiarity of a technology start up or innovation role (Essential)
● Have 5+ years minimum experience in relevant financial and financial reporting roles
● Work effectively under pressure and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
● Experience in driving outcomes, identifying requirements, issues and planning
solutions
● Experience working with leadership and cross functional teams including but not
limited to customer success, engineering, operations, product management,
● actuarial, finance, claims and operations.
● Experience working with external stakeholders: AFSL auditors, insurance partners in
managing and clearing monthly accounts.
● Proactively manage our loan portfolio of insurance premium financing.
● Have a proactive and problem-solving mindset.
● Proven ability to manage stakeholders and work autonomously to drive outcomes.
● Management and leadership experience is desirable.
● Advanced use of Excel
● High attention to deal.
● Ability to analyse and communicate financial information
● You will be an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal abilities.
